Creative competition "Science Bridging Nations"

We asked creative minds from around the world to design a poster illustrating German-Turkish cooperation by 21 July 2014. Entries could be submitted via the online platform jovoto. There was the chance to win cash prizes, while the overall winner could look forward to a trip to the closing event of the Year of Science in Turkey.

A very special relationship highlighted in images

Germany and Turkey share a special history and a remarkable present. Valuable partnerships between the two countries have been established both culturally and in the world of science. In order to give a face to the special relationship between the two partner countries, which share close ties while remaining very different, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched a creative competition in conjunction with jovoto, the digital platform for creative collaboration. Artists were invited to offer new, personal perspectives on the relationship between Germany and Turkey by looking at it through creative eyes, rather than from a scientific or political viewpoint. Entrants could express themselves in all manner of creative formats, such as drawings, photos, photo-realistic artwork, illustrations, typographic designs and collages.

Competition part of the German-Turkish Year of Science

The background to the competition is the current German-Turkish Year of Research, Education and Innovation 2014, which brings together scientists, researchers, politicians and students from both countries. Under the motto "Science Bridging Nations", cooperation is being promoted across a range of areas until early 2015, with the focus consistently on people – that is, the citizens of both countries and the role that science and education will play in shaping their future. The initiative from the BMBF and the Republic of Turkey's Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology (MoSIT) is being supported by many well-known partners from the worlds of politics, research, education and business.

A trip to Istanbul awaits the winner

Competitors could submit their entries through jovoto until 21 July 2014. As well as the chance to win a Community Award, which has a total prize fund of 5,000 euros, the most inspirational and exceptional entries will also be assessed by a German-Turkish panel of experts in a further round. In this round, there will be a cash prize of 800 euros for each of the top three entries, while the winner of first place will enjoy the special bonus of a trip to Turkey to take part in the closing event of the Year of Science.
